May 2022 Favorite Homes Roundup

It’s another round of roundups! These are some of my favorite from May 2022. It’s surprisingly a bit moody for spring, but hey, I just love wood walls. With a passion. So let’s get to the inspiration!!

OK So I pinned the pic on the left. I love the abstract mosaic on the floor, the super cool ceiling pattern that NEEDS to be made into drop ceiling panels for basements because why not. Such amazing 70s apartment building feels. Then I went through the the full post and saw this one on the right. It doesn’t give me quite as many feels, but I love the idea of pill-shaped tiles in a cool multi-color pattern. Definitely a show-stopper but in a very doable way for a home.

The color. The wood. The bench. Just everything. I love how they did a rectangle on the walls and the same color but squares on the floor. Breaks it up a little visually. I love how the color is almost like bright neutral? And the size of this shower is just goals.

OK so admittedly none of the full ‘rooms’ give me design envy, but I love the tiny luxurious couches for dogs + cats, and the idea of them having their own little rooms instead of a big bulky crate in the living room trying to masquerade as a side table but isn’t pulling it off well. I’d love to one day have a little dog room under the stairs for Rudy, it could even have a little slatted barn door to enclose them if needed (e.g. when the repairman is over and the dog can’t be up in their face trying to get pets).

Another house tour that made me gasp. Absolutely love the orange tones against the olive & sage green. You have to check out the full tour to see the entry too, but I love this room with it’s super comfy green sectional, beautiful dining table, and that green textured well (it’s actually textured plaster, not wallpaper - so cool!). They also talk about how they got the tracks for the drapes installed into the ceiling. Very very cool.

Would I live here? No. Would I vacation here? Hell yes. It’s so fun, it’s like living in a very well designed kids TV program. Very Memphis (and 80s is coming back into vogue), and just fun AND functional. I love that they have little cabinets above that dining alcove, and I don’t know what that curved area is in the kitchen but I love it.

This restaurant is giving me major modern ruckus room inspiration. I absolutely love the idea of having a bar with built in record shelves & speakers behind it, and I love that wood wall treatment. A much more modern version of the classic wood paneling, and I think very DIY-able. Add in some brass & smoked glass and you have the classiest damn ruckus room.

1 This is a Wes Anderson set. Look at it! OK it’s not, it’s in an apartment that I would describe as ‘chaotic chic grandma’, but this little nook has the music from Fantastic Mr. Fox just emanating from it.

2 This would be the absolute best wall for a guest room/office. So much closed storage for office supplies & files, and you put in a daybed or pull out couch so the room has double duty. So cozy and functional. I love how they put the sconces on the cabinet sides instead of on the back wall. Plus the color is just lovely.

OK Once again I pinned the one picture on the left, went through the full house tour and found the one on the right. I love this insanely mid-century bathroom - the light pink sink paired with the multi-tone brown tiles in a classic grid pattern, and the mirror with what I hope isn’t actually a fluorescent light. Fluorescent built-in lighting just reminds me of a grandparents ranch house, but in a good way. And then once again I must show you some gorgeous wood paneling. This one has these triangle pieces in between the flat boards - but I love how in some areas the extend to become little ledges. Visually very cool and very smart.

I couldn’t go through the house tour because it’s behind a paywall, but once again it’s just SO FUN! This time in a very fun victorian pastel scheme, instead of an 80s Memphis pastel scheme. I’m a sucker for colored bathroom fixtures, and I love how it’s paired with such a unique tile pattern on the walls plus a classic black & white checkerboard on the floor.

More. Wood. Paneling. Yes.

They actually decided to put up NEW wood paneling. I just love how comfy cozy it makes this little basement living room. Once again it’s modern but with serious nods/vibes to the 70s. And I love the idea of putting a desk behind the couch that can double as a sofa/console table. I’ll definitely want to integrate that idea into our future home.

Green and coral. Some proper spring vibes here. I’ve just been loving the traditional painted wainscoting + super fun wallpapered look lately. The whole vibe here is very fun while maintaining traditional colors, patterns, and materials.

OK last one, and last one with wood paneling. Can’t stop, won’t stop with the wood walls.

While I mainly love the entryway, the designer of this lake house did a truly fantastic job layering in decades to create the look of a lake house that has been in the family for generations. You get some real pre-war vibes from the kitchen with the thinner beadboard, there’s traditional pieces, painted pieces, modern pieces, some mid century & 70s pieces (like that bird crewel at the entry). But all fantastically layered together so it all works together. My dream is to buy a lake house in one of our surrounding (lower tax rate) states that can be passed from generation to generation, so I’ll be taking notes on this one.

That’s it for this month. Comment below to show us your favorite design find this year!
